Rochester Hypnotherapy - Keeping Hypnotherapy Professional
The Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Profession is not regulated by the Government or NHS in the UK at this moment in time.

Interestingly nor  is the Profession of counselling, although some counsellors are employed by the NHS if they are full members of the BACP.
There are Hypnotherapists who work in the NHS but they are also medically qualified, most Hypnotherapists are lay practitioners.

So with this in mind how do you decide who to contact?

You need to ask yourself certain questions before making an appointment:

  1. How long has your chosen Hypnotherapist been in practice?
  2. Is your  Therapist full time or does he/she have another career alongside this one?
  3. Does your Therapist have a designated place of work?
  4. Is your Therapist Insured for Public Liability?
  5. Does your Therapist belong to the UKCHO, the National Register?
  6. Can you examine your Therapists Dipolmas, are they displayed? Do they refer to Hypnotherapy or  unlinked qualifications such as Teaching or Nursing?
  7. Can you speak to your Therapist directly or do they use an answering service?
  8. Does your Therapist offer lower fees than the average....WHY?
  9. Is your Therapist happy for you to come along for a free consultaion
  10. Does your Therapist complete a confidential intake form which requires your signature?

Jacqueline commits to Professional Therapy and is answerable to  THREE INDEPENDENT govening bodies which are not linked to her original training school - this is important!

Jacqueline works from her own consulting room in a High Street position which shows her commitment to you.

Jacqueline is a FULL TIME Hypnotherapist and does not supplement her income with other forms of work including bodywork or meridian therapies.

Jacquelines Diplomas are clearly displayed  and you can double check her credentials with her Professional  Organisations who can verify how long she has been in practice and can also verify her level of training .

Jacqueline understands that all Therapy in the private sector is expensive but she does not set her fees in order to capture the market. Her fees are based on her training and expertise.

Jacqueline does not just read from scripts , she does not talk about magic and fairies, she uses HYPNOSIS which is different from relaxation and listening to stories.

Jacqueline occasionally turns away potential clients rather than give them false hope of success with Hypnotherapy ; she is able to refer on to other reputable Therapists who are experts in their own field.

If you want to speak to Jacqueline she always returns your calls and books appointments personally.

Jacqueline always completes a comprehensive intake form with terms and conditions for your protection. These records are confidential and comply with the Data Protection Act.

WARNING

The Hypnotherapy profession is awash with "dabblers" they are both unprofessional and damaging to the industry's reputation and damaging to the general public. The general public are  often swayed by important sounding qualifications which are irrelevant to Hypnotherapy Practice.

Some Hypnotherapy organisations turn a blind eye to people who are in practice with as much as a five day Hypnotherapy Certificate.

Some novice and/or uncommited part time Hypnotherapists work from home or as mobile therapists.There may be practical reasons for this but does this show an air of professionalism? Do you have a visiting lawyer or do you visit him/her at their home?

This is not and should not be a "COTTAGE INDUSTRY", Hypnotherapists see vulnerable people who are often depressed and anxious , we should be professional and ethical and been seen as such!

Be especially suspicious if mention is given of:

* Nursing qualifications
* Mention of Post Graduate status
* Doctors of Divinity
* Teaching qualifications
* Mention of being a Hypnotherapy Tutor unless registered as such with a reputable Hypnotherapy Organisation
* Very long lists of letters which refer to TFT.Reiki,EFT,Reflexology, Indian Head Massage etc.
* Registration with the NHS - anyone can get an Independent Provider number in the industry, It is forbidden to use the NHS logo in any form of advertising. All bona fide Hypnotherapists have knowledge of this through their Professional Organisations.
* Lower than average fees
* Hypnotherapists who offer money back guarantees
* Limited working hours i.e evenings only
* Hypnotherapists who tell you there is a long waiting list for their services
* Unverified testimonials or mention of celebrity clients
* Members of the Hypnotherapists family answering the phone
* Hypnotherapist insisting that only one session is required
* Hypnotherapists who mention childhood abuse or offer such suggestions as being the cause of the problem

Of course there is no implication that Teachers , Nurses and other professionals are not ethical or quaified in their field, but why would you have a need to mention how you are qualified in another area if you are confident with your Hypnotherapy status?

DEGREES

At this moment in time in the UK A DEGREE IS NOT REQUIRED in order to be a Professional and Ethical Hypnotherapist.

Hypnotherapy is accepted by some in the orthodox medical professions and is so effective that there are General Practitioners and Dentists who practice Hypnotherapy. A stamp of approval indeed!

I trained with Chrysalis Counselling in Kent in 2004.

There is a new BSC Hons Clinical Hypnosis Degree offered by St Marys University College in London.
